Addicted to Alphas (The Alpha Male Blog Hop)

If you have ever been to this site then you know we at bookswagger think alpha males rule the romance genre and for perfectly good reasons. So here we are participating in another hop dedicated to our favorite romance heroes! I went to good ol Google to see what funny things came up under alpha male and I tell you it was downright scary. There are classes to teach men to be an alpha male, as if any self-respecting alpha male would need a class (yuck).

Here are some of the books that lead me down my path, to the alpha male, one word historical.

The Bride, Julie Garwood
Alec Kincaid a Scottish laird must take an English bride. Jamie and Alec got off onto the wrong foot in the very beginning, when she is chosen as his bride, when she did not know she was in the running. But nothing stands in the way of an alpha male, I discovered Scottish lairds were tops when it came to ruling the roost.

Silver Angel, Johanna Lindsey
The English Derek Sinclair takes his brother’s place, the Dey of Barikah his twin brother. He is the ultimate alpha meeting his lady as Pasha the ruler, then as an English lord.

Highland Warrior, Connie Mason
I know, I know another Laird, what can I say, when I discovered the highland alpha lairds I went gaga. Ross MacKenna, knows it all, he is strong and loves hard and makes the mistake of not believing his lady but saves her in the end…sigh.

  1. I love alpha males in all genres.I read 2 of the 3 books you’re showing, and I loved them as well, I still re-read them when I want a good, funny historical. Though I think my favorite alpha males now are Raphael(guild hunter series), Lothaire(immortals after dark), Charles(alpha and omega) and Marcus(masters of the shadowland series).

    • These are a few that I read over and over too, I always say I wish Garwood would write another historical. I love Lothaire but I have to check out the other two…I think historicals started alot of people down the path to alpha male, its easy to be alpha holding a sword or leading a clan.

    • I know I have rebought Silver Angel atleast two times, sometimes the collection gets so big you cant find anything and when you want to reread something you have to have it. That is why I think we will never be 100% digital we have so many paperbacks we love.

  6. I love Alphas, because I need someone as confident and dominant as me to be an equal in our relationship – I hate the feeling as if partner is less powerful than me and cannot make it without me.

My favourite Alpha male is Gabriel from Annette Curtis Klause’s Blood and Chocolate, because he’s strong, confident and willing to fight for what he wants.

    • Preach lol. I think for a lot of women they do not want to feel like the dominant person in the relationship. I always say I do not want someone I can take.

      Like

      • Which is strange, actually, because I’m a very dominant person. It’s just – I’ve grown up being taught that “weak” men aren’t worth as much as strong men, so even when I don’t _need_ a man for his strength (because I’m strong enough on my own), the influence stays.

  19. Why I love Alpha Males is no real surprise! The perfect Alpha Male for me could be a Vampire, a Scottish Laird, an English Rogue/Gentleman, a Werewolf or Shape-shifter, or a Knight. He’s the rogue who thinks he can’t be reformed into a gentleman. He’s the rough and scarred Scottish laird that has a heart of gold. He’s the werewolf or shape-shifter that needs to heal an aching heart because it took him years to find his true mate. He’s the vampire who has waited decades for that special someone’s blood to sing to him and wake him up. And he’s the knight who can defeat the enemy with a quick swing of his sword, but can’t see the love in front of his face. My Alpha Male has eyes that can see into your soul and are as blue as the sea, or as black as a storm. He’s tall and brooding. His heart can enfold you into its grasp and make you fall in love when he gives it to you freely and completely. He is protective and passionate. In the end he is the one that makes your heart jump and butterflies fly in your stomach, and still kiss you until your legs melt!

I like Alpha’s that are strong and know what want & aren’t afraid to go for it either even if they have to take risks to get it. I also like Alpha’s that’s not afraid to let his mate fight that she too can be powerful and together they are a team they work together. Alpha’s that fight for what they want, declare their mates and don’t let anyone get in their way of their true love and happiness.

If I went with favorite Alphas, not including the ones I write about, I’d have to pick all the Mackenzie men (and Mac) from Linda Howard’s Mackenzie series, then there’s the Doms in Cherise Sinclair’s Shadowland series (especially Master Sam).

  40. Alpha males are the best….strong, independent, fiercely protective, but on the inside they are nothing but a big ol’ teddy bear! I love the way their mouths talk filthy, but their eyes portray their sensitive sweet. They can be rough and tough in the bedroom, but still have the gentle caress of an attentive and protective lover. It’s all in the heart…..alpha males are the best!
