Reasonable Doubts, Cara Bristol
Liz Davenport has finally felt the pull towards a man after losing her husband. She thrived in their domestic discipline relationship and expected to find it again. Instead she meets Grant Davis, an ex-Naval JAG officer. The newest attorney at the firm that felt she was too shameful to employ and nothing like her older firmly entrenched in the lifestyle late husband.
Grant knows Liz is holding back, he thought everything was perfect they enjoy each others company but after he talks her into giving him another chance she admits to her needs. He has to get over his feelings of hitting a girl is wrong. He likes fulfilling all her needs and he is learning he is fulfilling needs he never knew he had.
Bookswagger Marcia: Four Crowns, good read, on the way to swagger. This was a good one. Liz is that girl/woman who knew her life, it was great and then she had to start over because he is gone. I have to admit it was a little sad, because I have read the other books in the series and of course her husband had been a side character but it was not cry worthy just oh, okay worthy. But the fact that Liz is older and the know it all already as far as domestic discipline makes for a story being told from an interesting perspective. The hero Grant Davis has never been in the life so that is where the conflict comes in relationship wise after Liz gives up the goods and tells him what she is into.
I mean could you imagine, you meet this hot guy, great job, he is into you and everything is going great then you have to put the brakes on…Because you need more out of our relationship. So you either going to tell him what you need and help him learn which is what Liz did. I thought it was cool. Usually the guy is the know all wise alpha one.
Straight to the Swagger: Domestic discipline with a twist, have to give kudos to the author on this the man was still all man and he learned how to apply the discipline. I have read every book in this series and usually the domestic discipline books tend to be clean but I like how Bristol keeps to the heart of the genre while bringing some spice.
If you are like me, one of the best things about the holiday season is it is prime reading time (plus I tend to get GC cards galore for books, my family knows me).
Once Christmas book but not enough Christmas to choke on and I really enjoyed was
Second Chance Holiday, Aurora Rose Reynolds
This super sweet and sexy Christmas novella features a older hero/heroine in their forties. Mike the hero is 47 and the heroine Kathleen is 43. If you have read the Until series then you have met Mike before and know he is part responsible owner of a strip club and recently found his daughter who was taken from him by her mother, so he has some serious trust issues with women. Kathleen is coming off a scummy divorce and has her own trust issues as well. She also does not want to expose her son to a men parade, even though there is just fantastic alpha Mike.
This small town romance follows the two as they break up after two years of hiding the relationship they have with each other and Mike goes all alpha male to get his woman back. It is the holidays so he does have to deal with tree buying and commentary from the family which makes for good reading.
Bookswagger Marcia: Five Crowns, major swagger a must read. I enjoyed this and I can see myself pulling this one out next Christmas, like I would watch my favorite Christmas movie. It was short, cute and I enjoyed the history the two had we each other, it was like reading a Hallmark movie but way more hot, which I liked.
Straight to the Swagger: If you are the type who never puts up a tree to the type who decks all the halls. This book has less than to more than enough Christmas to say you checked into the season.
Prime Obession, (The Prime Chronicles Book 1) Monette Michaels
The Prime has joined the Alliance to assist in battling a common enemy a reptilian warlike species they have been battling for ages. The Alliance will also allow them to survive as a race. They cannot continue to battle alone, losing comrades while not being able to mate or procreate to replenish their race.
Captain Wulf Caradoc is the eldest son and heir to current Prime leader but he takes pride in the title Captain one he has earned. He did not expect to meet his mate in seasoned Captain Melina Dmitros.
Melina Dmitros mark has come alive, she is the first ever non Prime born, Prime mate and what. Is she supposed to sacrifice her career and everything she has worked for? All for the sake of some arrogant man, who may make her body come alive.
Bookswagger Marcia: Five Crowns, major swagger a must read. This is a reread for me. The heroine is a tough cookie who has earned her way to captain despite being from a weaker species, human. No sleeping her way to the top. She meets the arrogant Wulf, yes I know it is sounding like a cliché, weak little human falls for big strong, strapping alien but I promise you the journey is what makes this a great read. The hero is shocked he has a mate, one that is human at that, he does the stupid things males do when in denial which makes for happy reading cause Melina is not having that. The enemy is this creepy snake like species who you will love to hate. We get to see the Prime deal with them and the fact that they now have possible women to mate with when they have giving up hope. This is a pretty good series but book one is still tops for me.
Straight to the Swagger: Romance in space, on another world and human, alien relations with a heroine you can root for.
The Viper (Untamed Hearts 1), Kele Moon
Katie Foster a high school teacher with a douche of an ex is hot, curvy and lives in the world of pta meetings and good ol America. Marcos Rivera a gang member who may die in the life and a fighter who lost his shot when he took the wrap serving a prison sentence. These two opposites should not have met let alone want or fall in love for each other.
Bookswagger Marcia: Five Crowns, major swagger a must read. Love this story, loved it. This series features characters from the authors Battered Hearts (my review of book one in the series) series which takes place in the small country town of Garnet. Garnet is the training ground for UFC fighters and where Katie happens to live.
Katie and Marcos meet and have this attraction to each other that is hot. Marcos is realistic without being over the top, which drives me crazy and why I cannot take a lot of supposedly bada$@ reads because if I feel I can take you, you ain’t hard. Marcos gives Katie peaks into the life, much to his distaste leading to his “Young and The Restless” dramatic walk away. I don’t want to give it away but the ending is surprising and enjoyable, not how I saw it going. But this heroine has moxy, she did not have time for his walk away. I am ready for the next one!
Straight to the Swagger: Hoxxx bad boy (he does not need any tt’s in his hot). Case of opposites attract, with a female who may look sweet but has the guts to stand up for her man, who is tough but used to letting people judge him.
Multicultural Note: Marcos is Puerto Rican from Miami, who is commonly mistaken for Cuban. Found it interesting because I have seen this play out for friends and I liked how the author realistically inter-weaved parts of his culture and did not just give a character a Hispanic name and tag her book as multicultural which drives me nuts so mad cool points for Kele Moon.
