Rev It Up (Black Knight 3), Julie Ann Walker (Review)

Rev It Up (Black Knight 3), Julie Ann Walker

Michelle Carter, the Black Knights Inc. owner Frank Nights little sister and off limits. Before the Knight agency Michelle fell in love with a member of Franks seal crew Jake “the snake” Sommers. Jake going through his own issues pushed Michelle aside and into the arms of his seal brother Preacher. During a mission gone wrong Preacher is killed and Michelle is left to raise their son Franklin alone. Jake leaves the country after making sure his friend Preacher is buried and is not heard from again for four years.

Now Jake is back, the agency has a hit on their members and Michelle is in danger. He is back to prove his love and he wants a chance at forever with her. Putting his life on the line and protecting her from the fall out against her brother’s agency is just what he needs to get close to her and back his words up with action.

Bookswagger Marcia: Three crowns, swagger jacked, decent read. I was excited when I heard Michelle’s story would be the third Knight book. I really hated Preacher died but as soon as you read Michelle was married you knew it had to happen and I did get a little soft eyed, but I did not cry (you have to believe me). I have to admit this is not the best book in the series but I am still glad I read it. I loved catching up with the other characters and seeing how Michelle would get her HEA. There was still action although not as much as in the previous books. I cannot wait to see where the story goes next, there are a few characters I still want to read about.

Bookswagger Danielle:  Two crowns, now swagger, hard read. I wanted to love it because I have read the other two books in the series and loved them. However this one just didn’t do it for me. I honestly think it was the concept, I hated the idea of Shell going from Snake to Preacher and after the prologue I struggled with it even more.
I really liked the return of the other characters if not for them I’m not sure I’d have even finished the book. I love strong characters and I just didn’t find Shell strong and the whole hotel scene had me rolling my eyes like really that’s what you do to avoid talking and dealing with your issues. I honestly cannot tell if the author will be continuing the series and even though this wasn’t my favorite I will continue to read the series. I know this Julie Ann Walker is a great author.

Romance Readers like it PG and XXX (Bitten 18+ Blog Hop)

We Love Our Romance With All Types Of XXX’s

Romance reads have always been some of the hottest books on the shelves. I mean what other genre can make a cover model a household name, Fabio anyone? I love romance readers, we have the best and naughtiest book conversations. Come on, you get a group of us together and we are going to dish about books and those hotter than hot scenes. With the e-book explosion we readers have been able to get our hands on closed door to smut (I say with love) romantic reads. I have read things I would never discuss above a whisper in church, because I have to be honest if I found someone who read the same book I would be too excited NOT to discuss it lol. An example would be A Guardian’s Desire by Mya (no last name). The heroine Freya had two shifter mates and one was definitely dominant. She was by no means a helpless female making her living as a bodyguard in the paranormal community following a mission gone wrong. Those Nordic shifters really knew how to handle her and it was a treat to read, it is still one of my favorite spicy reads.

What is your favorite part of a man’s body (yummy), you can just give me one word or keep it as long as your want, for me I am going to have to say the chest. There is nothing like hugging a man that smells great and has a nice chest.

BookMarks Festival with Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kay Hopper

Saturday I attended the BookMarks Book Festival in Winston Salem, North Carolina. We had a blast and had the opportunity to hear authors Kay Hooper a native North Carolinian and Sherrilyn Kenyonspeak. The crowd was a mix of longtime fans, new readers, aspiring writers and festival fans.

Sherrilyn Kenyon, speaking at BookMarks Festival

Kenyon, spoke about her series, her up in-coming Chronicles of Nick movie and the Dark Hunter television series. She said they have a potential actor who would be perfect to play Acheron if things work out, the fans would find him a great fit and sexy (he comes with a British accent). She did promise the control freak in her would hold true to the vision of the books. I know as readers we hate when our favorite books are turned into movies and they ruin it.

Kay Hooper spoke about her break out novel Stealing Shadows that put her on the NY Times Best sellers list and what it is like being an author of over 70 books. Of course she told us about her love of the realistic paranormal and her fascination with psychics and mediums from an early age. When asked why she doesn’t just write paranormal she said because she does not feel she would bring anything new to the table. She also said when she writes she starts with the title then goes from there, she is not a plotter which I found very interesting.

Kay Hopper at BookMarks Festival book signing

Overall I had a great time and enjoyed having my book cover pictures signed as a digital reader and small apartment dweller I no longer have room for all the bound copies of their books. The ladies signed my pictures like the pros they are none of that non-hard copy backlash lol.

Coveted, A lot of OCD by Shawntelle Madison (Review)

Coveted is the first in the series by Shawntelle Madison. Natalya Stravinsky a werewolf suffering from OCD is an outcast and barely tolerated by her pack. Between lusting after her ex-boyfriend, the new guy she met in therapy and trying to avoid becoming a victim in the turf war between the Long Island werewolves and the pack that exiled, Natalya is a busy wolf. Natalya is embraced by her eccentric friend Aggie her grandmother but a rogue wolf doesn’t stand a chance in a turf war. Natalya has to come to terms with her place in or outside of the pack with her ex back the current alpha and being the low wolf on the totem pole. Will she stand and fight or will she turn her back on the pack and ultimately her family just as they did to her?

Bookswagger Marcia: Three crowns. The book was different. I enjoyed the concept of a female rogue werewolf and one with OCD at that! When I read the synopsis I knew this was one I had to read. This is urban fiction so I know romance is not expected but the blurb did lead me to expect more than I received although I am sure that was just me. I enjoyed all the characters especially Natalya Stravinsky’s sidekick Aggie. She had an overeating problem which we do not see with wolves. Unfortunately there were items in the book keeping me from rating the book a four. The action scenes were not very clear I read them but I cannot tell you how they went down. There are some scenes where old magic saved the day in but I cannot tell you how.

The one thing that really got me though is Natalya OCD spiraled out of control when the pack leader son Thorn left. Now he is back as pack leader and he just walks in says hi no, I believe it was “hey you” and everything is ok. You are back on team Thorn. No discussion, no cold shoulder nothing. I will be reading the next book Kept, because there has to be something more, she has to react to how he dissed her right?

On the Prowl (Review)

On the Prowl by Christine Warren, is the newest book in the Other series. Saskia and Nicolas tiger shifters have an arranged marriage. The marriage was arranged by their families when Saskia was 8 and Nicolas 19. Now 20 years later we find the couple in NYC ready to start life as a power Other couple if the family has a say in it. The couple wants to begin the mating frenzy but before they can begin they must find out who is framing Nicolas and all tiger shifters for a crime guaranteed to pit tiger against all others.

The couple has to deal with finding a balance between each others as mates. Saskia is not the 100% meek tiger mate Nicolas expected and Saskia is not as happy being meek as she thought she would be. In a town where all others are suspicious of tiger shifters the two will stand together to solve the issue of the massive setup all while working on creating the baby the needed before they will be considered bonded per tiger shifter laws.

Bookswagger Marcia: Four crowns. I have been following this series since I discovered Walk on the Wild Side in my local Wally World. I am officially hooked. One thing about the Other series I enjoy is you do not have to read the entire series, nor do you have to read them in order to comprehend or enjoy any book in the series. I jumped into the series and read them out of turn and was very comfortable. On the Prowl was funny, sexy and surprising. I loved alpha Nicolas, I loved seeing him so confused by his feelings for his arranged bride Saskia. Marriage to his arranged bride was not what he expected. His character handled it like a grown tiger for the most part, not bemoaning issues or dragging things out in an effort to create conflict. Nicolas acted like the head of a clan bull-headed, stubborn but willing to compromise. Even he was surprised at some of the choices he made when it came to his mate but a man in love rarely follows a logical path.

Saskia is another one of those characters based off real women that make you say jeez and you think you are not going to like, just like Ava in Your So Vein. You will definitely root for her, to train her man on how to treat his alpha mate.

For fans that follow the series we get to see some of the ladies and the men we fell in love with from previous books. Although they give poor Nicolas a hard time accusing him of crimes he did not commit. Fans will not regret peeking in on the others in On The Prowl.

Chick with some Sense, Savage Awakening J.D. Tyler(Review)

Savage Awakening by J.D. Tyler is the second title in the Alpha Series. Rowan Chase a LAPD officer uses her mandatory leave after discharging her weapon to follow a lead to locate her missing brother Micah Chase a member of the alpha team. Rowan finds the alpha compound and meets Aric Savage a missing alpha team member on a mission to rescue Micah. While supporting her brother during his recovery Rowan and Aric relationship develops along with her friendship with the other members of the alpha team. Aric fights his desire to mate Rowan although it will lead to his death, feeling unworthy of a mates love. Aric feels he is the reason half his team is MIA and his team now has to deal with his step sister Beryl as well as her lover the evil faerie king Malik the big bad of the Alpha series.

Bookswagger Marcia: Three Crowns. This was a nice read full of supporting characters, you get the feeling all alpha team members will eventually get a story. This is my first time reading the series and I did not have a hard time following or understanding the world of the alpha team. I liked Rowan she was a tough chick, who was not over done. I have seen tough chicks over done and fight the relationship to long and make choices that did not make since much to my frustration. That did not happen in this book.

J.D. Tyler has built a world where wolves are born and made. The alpha team was made during a fight in Afghanistan (I refuse to spoil it for you) so it makes it plausible for human men to be turned into wolves (which is why realist Danielle likes it). Her world also consists of witches and other magical beings. This series is just picking up speed I can tell it is going to get darker and a host of magical creatures or going to get some attention so if this something you enjoy you might want to join the alpha pack team.
